Laying of foundation

Construction of tandyr can not do without foundation preparation - this work is not laborious and rather easy. To do this, you will need to dig a shallow pit.

Now it should be half( about 10 cm) to fill the pit with something that keeps the heat well, or rather the heat. As a heat-retaining pillow, sand is perfect.

It is desirable to install a metal mesh on the sand, which is then poured with concrete. The concrete layer from above should be smooth, and after hardening it is smooth. Not perfect, but still.

Use the building level to ensure that the surface is even. It is advisable to start the preparatory phase in advance, since after you have poured concrete, it is necessary to wait about a week for it to gain the necessary strength.

Construction of tandyr walls

Let's start the construction of tandyr walls. For this you can use a brick, but in the photos you can notice that a large sandstone is used - it is considered to be a much better material for such an oven than brick. You will also need an arch serving as an air blower. You can cut it with a Bulgarian with a nozzle cutting a stone, or you can buy it already ready in a construction shop.

So, first, you need to cut a few pieces of roofing material( about 7pcs.) And glue them on cement, as shown in the photo.

Above them, make a smooth circle, which will serve as a guide for laying the walls of the tandyr. On the cement, install the already prepared arch.

Next, using cement and a spatula, lay the sandstone at your discretion, creating your own design or making the same tandoor project as in the photo.

After laying, make sure that the upper stones of the structure are at a less equal level. To do this, use the building level. If there are irregularities in the right places, add some cement.

Do not forget to place pieces of wire between individual stones. They will serve as a kind of reinforcement that will hold the cement-claydite mixture, which will be used later.

Interior "upholstery"

Next in a separate container mix cement and expanded clay one to one.

Now, using a sheet of PVC, ruberoid or vinyl with a thickness of about 5 mm and height from the height of the tandoor, it is necessary to do something like a cylinder. Use a strong construction adhesive tape. Install it inside the construction and follow the instructions below.

Next you will need to fill the "ditch" between the cylinder and the walls of the tandyr with a mixture of cement and expanded clay, which you have already prepared. But before that you should fill the cylinder with stones, otherwise under the pressure of the mixture it will lose its shape.

When the cement-clay mixture is dried, stones will need to be removed from the cylinder, and then the cylinder itself from the tandoor. If necessary, the inner surface of the structure can be leveled using a spatula or other tool convenient for you, for example, a trowel.

At the bottom of the tandoor it is necessary to make a certain step, bypassing the place near the arch, as shown in the photo. Before it completely hardens, you can support the tape holding the mixture with bricks. After remove them and the tape itself.

On top of the walls of the structure, install a marble slab, which, in addition to its functionality, will also give a presentable look.

To better understand how to properly create tandoor with your own hands, the video on the page is attached.

If you decide to make a tandoor made of bricks, the right solution is to trim its walls from the outside with a natural stone. This will not only give him an attractive look, but also will keep the desired temperature inside.

Finishing clay

Mix clay with sand and straw, all in one piece. Also you can use fireclay clay. It will serve as a finishing material for the inside of the walls and floor. The clay layer should be at least 3 cm, preferably 5 cm. Strive to achieve as flat surface as possible, so that it is smooth, without protrusions and depressions.

Now you need to let the clay dry. If the temperature in the street is low for drying, you can install candles or a heating lamp in the middle of the tandoor. You can also try a fan with hot air.

Cover and door

Buy in the building store or customize the cover and the door for the resulting oven.

Test of construction

Tandoor at the dacha with his own hands is ready. And it's time to test it for strength. Place a few firewood inside and heat them. Quite quickly the temperature will reach the level of + 111ºC.More wood will give you a higher temperature + 345ºC and above.

Now you can cook here meat( shish kebabs, lyulya-kebab, etc.), tasty bread cakes and many other dishes.
