How to repair the chandelier by yourself?

Step 1 - Checking the light bulbs

The first thing to do before repairing is to view the integrity of the tungsten filament( if incandescent lamps are installed).To do this, simply unscrew the bulb from the cartridge and look at the light, if there is a visible breakage, as shown in the photo below. If the thread is intact, this does not mean that the light bulb is good. In this case, you need to additionally check the lamp with a tester( multimeter) for an open circuit. All you need to do is fix one tentacle on the thread of the cap, and the other on the end of the light source. If the arrow on the dial of the tester jerked - the light bulb is intact and you will have to go to a more serious repair of the chandelier yourself. The arrow did not move - the lamp is faulty and it will simply have to be replaced with a new one.

If the LED chandelier does not work for you, then the LED test is reduced to the need to ring them with a tester, maybe one in the successive circuit is blown, as a result of which the entire luminaire that you are about to repair yourself has not burned.

Step 2 - We disassemble the light switch

If the ceiling light has stopped working and the light bulbs are working, we need to check the light switch.sometimes it burns the contacts, as a result of which the current does not flow to the lamp holders. After this, you need to visually inspect the wires at the input and output from the housing and the contacts themselves in the form of a hemisphere. In addition to visual inspection, it is necessary to check whether the voltage is suitable for the housing and whether it goes further along the chain to the chandelier. If there is voltage, then the switch is working and more complicated repairs are needed, which we'll talk about further. The voltage can be checked with a conventional indicator screwdriver - when the tip contacts the terminal, the LED in the handle should light up.

Step 3 - Check the wiring of the

Moving on and quietly cutting off all possible causes of the malfunction, it is necessary to check if the voltage is directly to the chandelier that is not lit. Here, you will have to remove the lamp from the ceiling and open the access to the wires removed from the junction box. Again, with a normal indicator, check if there is voltage, as shown in the photo.

If the wiring is old, the aluminum wire may have broken, resulting in an open contact. Repair the wiring with your own hands in two ways - to increase the wire to connect to the housing of the luminaire or to replace the electrical wiring in the house with a new, more modern one. Step 4 - Repair the main "culprit"

Here we come to the final part, which describes how to fix the chandelier that does not work. Here everything is quite simple. If the luminaire is normal( not LED), you need to disassemble the case and check all wire connections, as well as the insulation status. Probably, a short circuit occurred, as a result of which one of the wires was burned out.
You should also check the cartridges in which the bulbs are screwed. Very often these circuit elements fail and as a consequence - half of the lamps do not burn or one of all. In this case, especially if the products are Chinese, you need to replace the cartridge with a new one, which obviously will not be difficult for even a novice electrician!

After such a thorough analysis and repair is likely the chandelier will work. However, this instruction is only suitable for those conditions when the lamp is the most common. So, now we will consider the more rare causes of breakdowns and tell you how to repair a chandelier at home with your own hands, which does not burn, illuminates or glows only in one mode.

1. If you have halogen or LED lamps installed in the lamp that is controlled from the console, then in the case you will find the control unit and electronic transformers, which can also fail, as a result of which the situation may occur when the bulbs do not react to the remote control andlight up. In this case, the tester needs to ring all the circuit elements and, if necessary, replace the burned transformer with a new one, with the same parameters. 2. When repairing a crystal chandelier that does not shine, first remove all decorative details so that they do not break during the dismantling or installation of the chandelier.
3. If the lamp does not light the first time, it is most likely a problem in the circuit breaker, which must either be replaced or repaired by the technology that we described above.
4. Have noticed that the LED lamps started to flash after replacing the bulbs? It's not that the chandelier does not work, but that the diode lamps can not work with the dimmer, unless they are specifically designed( dimmable).Try just screw in the old bulbs and check if the light is on. 6. Sometimes the cause of the breakdown can be in the poor twisting of the wires( introductory with the luminaire, as shown in the photo below).As a result - twisted wires are weakened and the lighting in the room does not turn on or works poorly. 7. You can identify a dead diode only with a tester. A lot of time it does not take, especially if you already have some knowledge in the electrician.
8. Sometimes the failure occurs due to the fact that you have chosen the wrong bulb power. If the chandelier is designed, for example, 3 light bulbs of 60 watts, and you screwed 3 to 100 watts, it is likely that the fault is caused by this inattentive action.
9. In the case of modern lamps can be installed fuses, which break the circuit after a short circuit, thereby protecting the entire internal circuit from burning out. In this case, the repair is reduced to the fact that you need to find a fuse and replace it with the same one( it is cheap).
10. If the chandelier breaks, then you have incorrectly hung it( unreliable fixed or selected the wrong type of attachment).The broken chandelier must be disassembled, checked visually, then re-hung and connected, only to take care of a more secure attachment.
